Hey guys! Just a quick heads up, over the next month or so my new blog is under construction and I won’t be very active on this site. In the mean time, you can either connect with me on Facebook, YouTube or Twitter. Oh yeah, you can sign up on my mailing list (over on the right —>) too. I really don’t email much but when I do, they’re packed with value! Be true to yourself, believe in who you are and I look forward to connecting with you soon:) Love, Kyle
“It was the day after Christmas (December 26th, 2009) and I was juiced! Growing up, as I visited my Dad in North Carolina, I had always heard we had a professional motocross rider in the family, but I had yet to spend much time with him.
The funny thing is that even when I started getting into extreme sports back in 2001, I never attempted even reaching out to him…that is until now! I guess I always felt distant because he’s the husband of my Step Mom’s niece and we never spent too much time with their family. “Besides, he jumps motorcycles and I ride bicycles”, I thought to myself..
“Mid 2004 and well into 2005, I was on a mission. Now with it being my Senior year in High School and a mountain of decisions to make regarding my future, the ONLY one I was clear on, was that I wanted to create my best biking video yet.
I was feeling more uncertainty than ever before because I wasn’t sure if and when I was going to have the chance to make another biking video with all my friends graduating and moving all over the country to pursue college. Of course I could have hired someone, it’s just I wasn’t even sure at the time how I wanted my future in biking to look..
“Late 2003 and well into 2004, I was riding 2-3 hours per day, practicing as much as I could, and doing my first few NORBA observed trials competitions around the country. Comps were great because they allowed me meet others in the sport of trials around the nation and sometimes the world. Such a small percentage of mountain bikers ride trials, it’s easy to think you’re the only one sometimes! Now as Juniors in High School, anytime we weren’t working or at school, Andy and I would always find time to ride our bikes, no matter what time of day.
At the time, a lot of our riding inspiration came from pro riders like Hans Rey, Ryan Leech, Jeff Lenosky, Aaron Chase, and many more! Although Andy and I enjoyed going for the occasional off road mountain bike ride or maybe dirt jumping session, our favorite was always freeriding the city streets!..
“Fall 2001, it was the beginning of my Freshman year of High School in Santa Cruz, Northern California. Little did I know, that playing on the 9th grade basketball team that year would have lead me to meeting my new best friend and riding buddy at the time Andy Kolasa, who I had noticed rode his mountain bike to practice everyday.
Make a long story short, after discovering a common passion for street mountain bikes, we became best friends spending much of our time together talking about new bike skills we were pursuing and wanted to learn as well planning our next ride..
